Majapahit帝国の栄光は寺院の破損や建造物の発見を除いては、ジャワ東部にはそれほど残っていません。しかしジャワ東部には寺院や美しく汚されていないビーチ、壮大な火山、高地でのすばらしい湖、色豊かな水庭園、保護された野生の動物など魅力的なスポットが多く点在します｡噴火口とそれを囲んだ湖のあるIjen高原のすばらしい景色があります｡牛追い祭りで有名なマドゥーラはジャワ東部地域の一部で、固有の伝統と言葉をもっています。
ジャワ東部の首都スラバヤはインドネシアでジャカルタの次ぐ多い人口と経済力を持ってます｡また農業、漁業、燃料業、コーヒー、マンゴ、りんごなど多くの強い経済力を持ち、国内で最も産業化した地域です｡
